National network of buildings managed from Stockport

Johnson Controls is a leading provider of integrated facilities management, building control and security solutions across Europe, with more than 100 offices serving customers in over 20 European countries. Globally it is a market leader in automotive systems and facility management and control with sales for 2004 totalling $26.6 billion.

Problem

In the UK, Johnson Controls services sites as diverse as local authority schools and an engineering manufacturing facility. When centralised management was required, Johnson turned to Autopage to provide a fully-automated communication system.

Solution

Autopage's Aris system links separate serviced buildings to a monitoring centre at the company's Stockport branch. When problems occur with heating or cooling controls within these buildings, an automatic alarm dials the central computer system which in turn automatically sends a text message alert to the on-call engineers.

Johnson’s Service Support Manager Martin Langman says: "I've spent most of my working life fighting with software that doesn't do as it is supposed to, so it was nice to find a piece of software that worked straight out of the box. Autopage were extremely helpful. One of the reasons I liked their system so much was that it was a standard, straight-off-the-shelf package and it only took half a day to get going, which is very impressive.

"We can cover the whole of the UK from Stockport. It is cost-effective and efficient."
